Health Issues? 5 Months ago Karma: 1
Well Fletcher recently turned 4 years old and so far so good: NO HEALTH problem.
Cody is 2.75 years old and she too is in great health.
Maya is 3 and in great health, although she did get a rash from something or other last month.
MOst of the BB folks that I see regularly also seem to have eceptionaly healthy dogs.

Is anyone experiencing any health issues with their BB?

Are our breeders doing such a good job that the great majority of dogs are very healthy?

With a small pool of genes to work with recurring genetic problems are something that they are all watching for and, I am sure, are trying to obliterate.

As the breed was returning, the COI's appeared to be constantly in the 30% range and above. Now that the genetic pool is increasing the COI's are in the teens!! In a couple more generations, we should be in the single digits...and below!! Continuing to stay away from known health issues and lowering the COI's should continue to take us in a positive direction!!

Thanks for that answer.

Are there factors other than COI that affect physical health that as breeders you would want to control?

Is some amount of COI desirable, ie line breeding?

The Pudelpointer people formed their own breed club and are putting tight control on the breeding as are the German Kutzar (sp?)

With the BB population growing, are the breeders thinking about getting together in the States and form a breed club?
